What to do if you need to change your email details

Important: Read Before Updating Updating your email address in Settings isn't just a label change; it impacts your login, your project history, and how builders find you. Changing your email directly will delete your historical Invitations and Watchlist data. Neither you nor your team will be able to recover this visibility.

The recommended process

To preserve your history and ensure a smooth transition, we recommend "phasing in" your new email rather than overwriting the old one.

  1. Create a New User: Add your new email address as a new user (even if it’s for the same person).
  1. Mute the Old Account: Log into the original account, go to Settings > My Profile, and unsubscribe from notifications. This stops duplicate alerts while you still have access to old data.
  1. Notify Your Network: Find a recent invitation sent to your old email. Scroll to the bottom and click ‘request to update your details here.’ Note: This alerts all builders who have your old email in their Address Book. They must still manually approve this change on their end.
  1. Finalise: Once your old projects are no longer active and builders are using your new address, you can remove the old email from your team.

Understanding project invitations

Because builders maintain their own private Address Books, E1 cannot force an update to their contact lists. Invitations reach you in two ways:

Manual: A builder selects you from their Address Book.

Risk: If you change your email in Settings without notifying them, you will miss these invitations.

Automated: Triggered when you interact with documents (viewing/downloading). These will continue to work if you update your settings.

Managing notifications & unsubscribing

If you wish to stop receiving updates for a specific project or a specific builder, use the Unsubscribe link at the bottom of any invitation.

  • Option A: Unsubscribe from that specific project only (e.g., no more addendums).
  • Option B: Unsubscribe from all future invitations from that specific builder.

When is it safe to just overwrite my email?

You can simply overwrite your email in Settings > My Profile and click Update Profile ONLY if:

  • You do not care about losing your historical Watchlist data.
  • You do not need to track past Project Invitations.
  • You are not taking over a former team member's login (in which case, follow the ‘Recommended Process’ above).
