Trade Selection on E1

3 min read

Overview

The trades selected in your Company Profile are key to finding the right projects, receiving relevant invitations and updates, and your discoverability on the E1 Network.

E1 has a set list of trades to choose from when setting up your Company Profile, and many subcontractors choose several to represent their business.

You can select as many as you need to complete your profile, however, we recommend keeping the selections as minimal as possible.

The trades listed in your profile are used in the following ways:

  • Categorising your business within the builder-facing subcontractor Network
  • Matching you with appropriate suppliers within the Supplier Connect features
  • Highlighting when there is a match on the required trades list on a project
  • Delivering relevant project information within automated emails such as the Midweek Update email

You may not find an exact match for your trade in the Company Profile options, we recommend choosing the closest fit or combination that best reflects your business.

To ensure the best match within our builder-facing Network, you will also need to select your core trades.

Selecting your trades

To add or edit trades in your Company Profile, head to Settings - Company Profile

  • Click ‘Edit’ in the Trades section

  • Select or de-select relevant trades from the dropdown menu, then click ‘Next: Core Trades

  • Now choose 1 or 2 of your nominated trades as your Core Trades and click ‘Save’. You can read more about Core Trades in the section below.

Nominating your Core Trades

You may have several trades listed in your Company Profile, the next step is to nominate up to 2 Core Trades.

Core Trades only affect the builder-facing subcontractor Network, and can be edited at any time.

Nominating Core Trades make sure that your Company Profile is more easily found by builders looking for those trades, as it will highlight the trades you specialise in.

💡
Setting your Core Trades won’t impact on any other functionality listed in the Overview section of this article.

Core Trade scenarios

Subcontractors with 1 or 2 trades

The Core Trade feature has been designed for subbies with 3 or more trades in their Company Profile. If you only have 1 or 2 trades listed, select both as your Core Trades.

Subcontractors with 3+ trades

You can edit your Core Trades at any time. Select the 1 to 2 trades you want to prioritise to builders that may be searching for a new subbie within our Network. All trades listed will still be discoverable by builders, but your Core Trades will rank more highly.

Subcontractors that have chosen 3+ trades that are a mix of broad and specific trades

You may have chosen a mix of broad and specific trades on your Company Profile.

For example Carpentry, Doors and Frames, Timber Trusses, Hardware and other woodworking trades; or if you are in Electrical Services, maybe you have Electrical Services, Audiovisual, Nurse Call, Security, Communications, Intercom, and other electrical trades

In this scenario, we recommend nominating the 1-2 trades with broad definitions for your Core Trades, for example Carpentry or Electrical Services.

Subcontractors with 3+ trades that have been chosen because the niche or sub-trade doesn’t have a match in the trade options

Not all sub-trades or niche trades are listed in the trade options, so sometimes a combination of close-fit trades are chosen.

For example you may do height access work on any type of trade like window or cleaning, but only if it involves specialised height access equipment.

In this instance, we recommend nominating the top 2 trades that have the best result for you in terms of getting contacted by builders for your Core Trades, and also adding the specific services you provide to the ‘About Us’ section of your Company Profile.
